Older home wiring

Older homes have character, and often wiring that was never meant for modern life. We update it carefully and to current code, with as little disruption to your plaster, trim, and finishes as we can manage.

Signs it is time to call

Electrical problems don't wait, and neither should you

  • Two-prong outlets with no ground
  • Fuses instead of breakers
  • Cloth-covered or brittle wiring
  • Outlets or switch plates that feel warm
  • Too few outlets, so you rely on power strips
  • An inspector or insurer has flagged the wiring

What we do

  • An honest look at what needs attention now and what can wait
  • Grounded and GFCI outlets where they matter most
  • Added circuits for kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry
  • Partial or whole-home rewires, planned room by room

Questions

Older home wiring: common questions

Do I have to rewire my whole house?

Not always. Many older homes need targeted updates rather than a full rewire. We tell you plainly what is unsafe, what is outdated but fine for now, and what it would take to update it.

Will you have to tear open my walls?

We fish new wiring through existing walls and ceilings wherever we can. Some small openings are usually needed, and we keep them as few and as tidy as possible.
